The front-page of today?s Beijing Daily features an op-ed titled, ?Don?t Give Rumors Any Position? by Jing Ping. Jing is ?someone who works in the law? (?????). He argues that citizens have a duty not to spread Internet rumors, which he defines as unsubstantiated or nonsensical claims. These are bad for society and risk creating instability.?

Below, the Beijing Online Media Association similarly asks readers to ?resist online rumors.?

Beijing Daily?is an organ of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee.?These articles are typical of the current government campaign against online rumors.

The top headline is that Hu Jintao met with The World Federation of Overseas Chinese Association, a Beijing-based organization under the auspices of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council. While it does not appear that any overseas Chinese were at the meeting, someone who represents about 570 overseas Chinese in 110 countries was there.

Jia Qinglin, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang were also in attendance. The picture, taken at the event on April 9, 2012, shows the four of them in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, shaking hands with the representatives of the association.
