Lady Gaga's Born This Way Ball Kicks Off Amid Protests

Seoul, South Korea, set list heavy on new material, but Gaga's biggest hits come out to play.
By John Mitchell

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> kicked off her hotly awaited <i>Born This Way</i> Ball at Seoul, South Korea's Olympic Stadium on Friday (April 27) in front of 45,000 fans, and despite <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-17867102" target="_blank">protests</a> from Christian groups saying Mother Monster was "obscene" and could "taint" young people with her performance, the concert appears to have gone on without incident. </P><P> </P><P>Intrepid Twitter fans are already showing off pictures and video of the <i>BTW</i> Ball's enormous Gothic castle backdrop and myriad costume changes, making it clear that Gaga has outdone even her own Monster Ball in terms of spectacle. </P><P> </P><P>While we wait for reviews to trickle in from halfway around the world, one thing is certain: No minors were corrupted at the show. Earlier this month, the Korea Media Rating Board decided to <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2012/04/02/lady-gaga-unfazed-by-south-korean-concert-age-restrictions/">elevate the age rating</a> for the concert from 12 to 18, prohibiting minors from seeing the concert. When the board notified Gaga's tour promotion company and a sponsor of the change in age restrictions, it did not offer a reason why the show &#8212; which at the time was still in rehearsals and had not been reviewed publicly &#8212; was considered unsuitable for children under 18. </P><P> </P><P><CENTER><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:717952/cp~vid%3D717952%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A717952" width="430" height="242" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></CENTER> </P><P> </P><P>The likely catalyst for the board's decision came more into focus as the concert neared and protests from a group of conservative Christians calling itself the Alliance for Sound Culture in Sexuality ramped up. The group <a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31749_162-57419977-10391698/lady-gagas-born-this-way-ball-met-by-protests-in-south-korea/" target="_blank">covered Seoul with posters</a> accusing Gaga of "spreading unhealthy sexual culture" through "lewd lyrics and performances." </P><P> </P><P>The superstar and her fans, however, were undeterred. Though she <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga/status/186886867118080000" target="_blank">tweeted</a> her hopes that the Korea Media Rating Board would reverse its decision (it didn't), she continued on as planned. Many fans reportedly arrived at the show wearing versions of Gaga's most well-known flamboyant costumes, and there have been no reports of disturbances at the concert. </P><P> </P><P>Before the show, Gaga <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga/status/195815732494348288" target="_blank">tweeted</a>, "I can you hear you Korea. I'm shaking." </P><P> </P><P>Gaga's performance was heavy on material from her <i>Born this Way</i> album, though her biggest hits, including "Bad Romance," Poker Face" and "Just Dance," were represented. </P><P> </P><P>Lady Gaga's <i>Born This Way</i> Ball set list: </P><P> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Highway Unicorn" <br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Government Hooker"<br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Born This Way"<br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Bloody Mary"<br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Bad Romance"<br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Fashion of His Love"<br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "The Queen"<br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Just Dance"<br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Love Game"<br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Telephone"<br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Just Dance"<br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Heavy Metal Lover"<br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Bad Kids"<br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Hair"<br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Yo&#252; and I"<br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Electric Chapel"<br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Americano"<br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Poker Face"<br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Schei&#223;e"<br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "The Edge of Glory"<br> </P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Marry the Night" </P><P> </P><P><i>Did you see Lady Gaga's </i>Born This Way<i> Ball? AnTuTu pegs Galaxy S III as most powerful Android device, potentially reveals its specs

AnTuTu pegs Galaxy S III as most powerful Android device, potentially reveals its specs

Ah, the Galaxy S III. We always knew it'd be a keystone among Android smartphones, but according to the AnTuTu benchmark suite, it'll be the one device to rule them all. While there's no way to verify whether this test is indeed legitimate, all Android users may currently peep the AnTuTu app, which not only shows the smartphone as having bested the mighty Transformer Prime tablet, but it also reveals the most comprehensive set of specs we've yet seen for the Galaxy S III -- again, take this with a grain of salt. The device is said to wield a Samsung Exynos 4212 SoC with a dual-core 1.4GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM and a 4.7-inch, 720p HD display. This lines up similarly with the product listing from Amazon Germany, as the specs also reveal a 12 megapixel primary camera on the rear, along with a 2MP shooter on the front. No big surprises for the OS, which is listed as Android 4.0. Should the benchmark tests turn out to be legitimate, the HTC One X will no doubt have some very stiff competition.

Update: Samsung has revealed the 1.4GHz Exynos 4 Quad as the basis for its next superphone.

Kim Kardashian and Lindsay Lohan to Dine at the White House... Together

Fox News is determined to prove the Mayans right.

For reasons that defy comprehension - even more than how Gretchen Carlson still has a job - the network has invited two guests along with it for Saturday night's White House Correspondents' Dinner: Kim Kardashian and Lindsay Lohan. Moreover, they will be seated at the same table.

Yes, readers. Prepare for the Apocalypse.

Sources tell TMZ that Kim and Lindsay actually get along well, so don't expect any fireworks at the event.

But will Kardashian and Lohan actually meet President Obama?!? Will their photo op equate to this amazing one of a bar patron and Obama?

"No way. The President almost never mingles with the guests," an insider says.

Other stars, with actual talent, expected to attend on Saturday include: George Clooney, Reese Witherspoon, Viola Davis, Charlize Theron, Eva Longoria and Daniel Day-Lewis.

'Five-Year Engagement' Cast Reveals How They Keep Composure

Jason Segel, Emily Blunt and Alison Brie share with MTV News cures for avoiding on-set laughter: 'I just think of really dark, morbid stuff.'

Whenever a movie features a very talented cast of actors who are also great comedians, it's easy to assume that many laughs and bloopers occurred during filming. Take the upcoming romantic comedy "Five-Year Engagement" for example, which boasts the very funny ensemble of writer/actor Jason Segel, Emily Blunt, Alison Brie ("Community") and Chris Pratt ("Parks and Recreation") to name a few.

When MTV News sat down with the cast to talk about the film recently, we asked how they keep their cool to avoid ruining a scene when a castmember does something particularly amusing.

"I have a lot of experience trying not to break on the set of 'Community' working with a lot of funny people," Alison Brie explained. "I consider it a personal challenge when working with Ken Jeong to not break in scenes with him, and he's ridiculously funny, so I had that under my belt."

Regarding her methods for maintaining a straight face, Brie said, "I just stay in character — professional! Look, I just think of really dark, morbid stuff. I don't want to tell you; it's going to make you depressed."

Segel revealed he learned his lesson early in his career: "I'm terrified of breaking, because Judd Apatow screamed at me once when I was very young on 'Freaks and Geeks.' I was laughing, and I was young, and looking back, he was just trying to scare me, but he said, 'Every time you break, it costs me thousands of dollars!' And since then, I'm terrified of breaking."

Blunt blames "nervous energy" for her on-set laughter. "I laugh at everything," she shared. "I found myself laughing at my grandfather's funeral because I had that nervous energy, and you don't know how to cope. I think the more pressure I'm under from the cast and crew not to laugh, the better I do."

Check out everything we've got on "Five-Year Engagement."
