Aromatherapy was practiced in ancient Egypt. Documentation (on papyri) of this art and science of holistic healing using essential oils indicates that Egyptians were as finicky about beauty as we are today. The most famous Egyptian queen Cleopatra is credited with writing a book on secrets related to beauty and which comprises details about how to use essential oils for various beauty treatments.
Experts from the aromatherapy field believe that some essential oils contain collagen boosting properties, which make them useful for therapies targeted at reducing wrinkles and fine lines on the skin?s surface.
USE OF ESSENTIAL OILS TO REDUCE WRINKLES:
- Essential oils such as myrrh, frankincense, rosemary, fennel, palma rosa, rosewood are the few oils which when combined with carrier oils such as olive, coconut or jojoba oil help prevent fine lines from appearing on the skin surface. These oils when messaged on the face in gentle circular motions boost collagen production and elasticity of the skin thus reducing wrinkles and their potential appearance.
- Therapists caution that the essential oils are very volatile and should be used with care. Only a couple of drops are sufficient for one teaspoon/tablespoon carrier oil. Excessive quantities or direct application is not recommended as the skin might break out in a rash.
AROMATHERAPY DURING YOUTH:
Aromatherapy in treating wrinkles and fine lines is recommended by the experts in the field at a young age say in twenties as ?prevention is better than cure?. Aromatherapy experts utilize blends of neroli, fennel, lavender, German chamomile, geranium and carrot seed essential oils to maintain the natural collagen levels and elasticity of the skin. This also helps in prevention of premature aging.
AROMATHERAPY BETWEEN 30 & 50 YEARS:
People in their thirties and forties can opt for aromatherapy that utilizes blends of neroli, patchouli, palma rosa, fennel, yarrow, carrot seed, lemon and rose oils to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
AROMATHERAPY DURING MATURE AGE:
The initial signs of wrinkles are visible from 30 onwards and their appearance or depth increases as one ages. People beyond fifties notice that their fine lines have become deeper and their skin has a ?parchment? like quality. There is much more damage with sun spots or liver spots appearing on the skin?s surface due to prolonged exposure to the combined elements of sun rays and environmental pollutants. Experts recommend the use of blends (not all) of essential oils such as frankincense, myrrh, tea tree, lavender, patchouli, eucalyptus, juniper, basil and tangerine to name a few.
IN CONCLUSION:
Aging is a natural degenerative process of the cells in our body. As we age the human growth hormone starts depleting in our body. The pituitary gland produces it in lesser quantities as soon as we hit 30?s. This leads to aging.
Some aromatherapy experts believe that essential oils such as frankincense boost the hgh levels in the body thus reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the skin. Though this claim has no scientific backing, certain ancient scriptures mention that essential oil of frankincense helps control the appearance of wrinkles on the skin. Given this scenario it is always judicious to consult an expert from the field before preparing or using essential oils.
