A look at the Americans killed in embassy attack

Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed during an attack on the Benghazi consulate in Libya on Tuesday.

A look at the victims:

?Chris Stevens: The career diplomat spoke Arabic and French and had served two tours in Libya, including running the office in Benghazi during the revolt against Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi. He also brokered tribal disputes and conducted U.S. outreach efforts in Jerusalem, Cairo, Damascus and Riyadh. Stevens is survived by his parents and sister, Ann. He is the sixth U.S. ambassador to be killed on duty.

?Sean Smith: An Air Force veteran who worked as an information management specialist for the State Department for 10 years in posts including Brussels, Baghdad and Pretoria. He is survived by his wife, Heather and two children, Samantha and Nathan.

?Glen A. Doherty: A former Navy SEAL who worked for a private security firm and was protecting the consulate in Benghazi. A trained pilot and paramedic, Doherty co-authored a book about the modern challenges of being a military sniper. Survivors include his parents, Bernard and Barbara, a brother, Gregory, and sister, Kathleen.

? Tyrone S. Woods: A former Navy SEAL who served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. A registered nurse and certified paramedic, he has protected American diplomatic personnel in dangerous posts from Central America to the Middle East since 2010. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and three sons, Tyrone Jr., Hunter and Kai, who was born a few months ago.
